ScribeStudio to Provide Free e-Learning Tools To Educators Left Without Classrooms In the Wake of Katrina
New York, NY: ScribeStudio today announced that it will offer one free year of use to educators wrestling with the educational challenges created by the Hurricane Katrina disaster. The plan extends four months of free use, about the length of a semester, and can be prolonged beyond this period for instructors who are without classrooms at that time.
ScribeStudio is an easy-to-use Web-based e-Learning toolkit that makes it simple for all levels of educators to publish courses that use a wide array of content, even if they have no previous IT experience. This e-Learning tool is being offered to Gulf-coast educators who are without classrooms, or trying to teach students who were forced to relocate, as well as instructors who are absorbing displaced students from flood-damaged regions.
"Many instructors in the Gulf-coast region are scrambling to stay in touch with displaced students, and school systems are trying to make due with damaged facilities after the hurricane. Other educators are wrestling with classroom overcrowding because their facilities absorbed students who were forced to move because of Hurricane Katrina," said Peter Cervieri, Director, ScribeStudio. "Clearly, there are a host of challenges educators must overcome; our hope is to provide an immediate short-term alternative for some of them."
Internet access is all that is required for instructors to create courses and for students to view them – no software needs to be purchased or downloaded, making ScribeStudio a solution that will work off any Web-enabled computer. While unfortunately, there are still many displaced people without computers or Internet access, this solution will assist the many educators and students who have been able to migrate to temporary housing outside of the affected areas.
"We were looking for opportunities to help in ways that were meaningful and constructive for the people whose lives have been disrupted by Katrina," said Cervieri "Until these states rebuild, we hope that free use of ScribeStudio’s e-Learning platform will help Gulf-coast instructors maintain continuity for classes without classrooms."
Internet access is all that is required for members to view the conference, which overlays speakers’ PowerPoint presentations with synchronized audio and video from the event. No software needs to be purchased or downloaded, making ScribeStudio a solution that will work for anyone with an Internet connection.
